Varied Bricks And Their Different Bricks Sizes In India

With the real estate – construction industry booming so is their raw materials. Cement, bricks, iron rods and every single accessory that is widely used are in demand. Bricks to be specific have been here since ages and will be always needed for construction structures. Various countries have different standard brick sizes and dimensions. The standard and normal brick size in India is 190 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm (as per the BS recommendation).


In India, the Red Brick is termed as “common brick” which is made of burning clay in brick furnaces. The weight of the standard brick is approximate around 3 kilograms. If we happen to add mortar thickness it will be 200 x 100 x 100mm.

If the red bricks are larger in size, it is difficult to burn them properly and they become too heavy to be placed manually. On the other hand, if bricks are small, more the quantity of mortar is required. Hence, a standard dimension is determined for various brickworks.

Grey Ash Bricks

Great for partition walls, pavements and most importantly the bricks are heat resistant. They provide fine finish as they are easy to install.

The bricks are light in weight, about 2.6 kilograms and their respective dimensions are 230 mm X 110 mm X 70 mm.

Burnt Clay Bricks

These are the classic form of the red bricks that we usually see it around. These bricks are developed by pressing the wet clay into the moulds and then the drying and firing process is performed in the furnace. These bricks are widely used in various structures which include columns, foundations and masonry walls.

The dimension of the burnt clay brick is 90 mm X 90 mm X 90 mm.

Ceramic Bricks

Light in weight and easy to handle, the ceramic bricks are durable in quality. These bricks pallet are safe to use and have greater strength. Majorly used for partition walls, floor sides etc. The usual dimensions are 190 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm.

Concrete Bricks

These concrete bricks are made from solid concrete that are now days becoming the most preferred choices amongst homeowners. Concrete bricks are usually used in fences, walls and facades offering an exceptional aesthetic presence. These bricks can be mass-produced to deliver various colours if dyes are added when in production. These bricks are not advisable to use in underground applications.

Usually, there are 2 standard sizes available in concrete bricks which are 440 x 215mm and 390 x 190mm.
